I am a thought leader who for the past 15 years has had the honor and pleasure of organizing multidisciplinary teams and community-based programs, particularly within higher education and disaster resilience. These collaborations include diverse groups across and beyond the University of California, driving innovative models and cross-sector partnerships. My educational background includes a Master’s degree in Global & International Studies from UC Santa Barbara and PhD training in Public Health from UCLA, complemented by mixed methods evaluation and assessment training at UCSB. I took a leave of absence during the Covid 19 pandemic to found the UC Disaster Resilience Network (UCDRN), where I have led significant international partnerships, including a notable collaboration with the Universidad de Chile with an initial focus on seismic resilience. Additionally, I worked for Human Rights Watch's Americas Division in Washington, DC, and have extensive international experience, including living and working in the Caribbean, Central and South America, and Western Europe. Currently, as UCDRN's Director, oversee the administration and strategic growth at all levels of our UC-wide organization. Of particular interest to the Pacific Council, I am currently prepping a keynote for the Association of Pacific Rim Universities' Multihazards Symposium next month and am leading a fantastic leadership team in developing UCDRN's proposed "CAL Disaster Resilience & Emergency Management Institute".
