Her writing career began in college, publishing dispatches in her college newspaper from London, where she lived as an exchange student. After graduating with a B.A. in Journalism, she briefly worked in public relations before moving abroad once again to Hong Kong, where she lived for three years and worked for NBC Asia.

After returning to Los Angeles in the late-1990s to raise her two children, she continued her writing career, publishing articles and op-ed pieces in the Los Angeles Times, LA Parent Magazine and various other publications, in addition to writing grants and content for several LA-area non-profits. This led to her collaboration with Lou Dantzler on their book, A Place to Go, A Place to Grow: Simple Things That Make a Difference for At-Risk Kids, published in 2006 by Rodale Press. She has also worked with others, including CBS News’ Leslie Sanchez and Facebook’s Sean Parker, to bring their book projects to fruition.

In addition, for nearly 20 years she has been a passionate advocate for philanthropic causes, both domestic and international, that focus on education, equity and humanitarian needs. Indeed, she has devoted much of her time both as a volunteer and fundraising professional working to further various causes, thus utilizing her talents to raise funds and awareness for various non-profit organizations, such as the Boys & Girls Club, Hollywood CPR, College Summit, Uplift Family Services as well as in her current role as Development Director, West Coast Region for the international NGO Concern Worldwide.

Kathleen Peterson Felesina lives in West Los Angeles.
