A discussion with Professor Yorizumi Watanabe of Keio University about challenges in the Asia-Pacific's trade architecture and Japan's trade strategy in 2018, including cooperation with the United States which is considered "conditio sine qua non" (an essential element).
The world's economy is changing, including a renewed interest and devotion to protectionism and an increasing distrust in free trade. As a free trade promoter, Japan has been a proponent of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Japan-EU Economic Partnership Agreement, and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
