The Peninsula BH
The third installment of the Edgerton Series on Iran and Turkey, featuring an evening reception and discussion with Mr. David Judson, Editor-in-Chief of STRATFOR, a global intelligence company.
From its porous borders with Syria and Iraq to domestic crackdowns on democratic rights and freedoms, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's Turkey is in a precarious state. Having lived and worked in Istanbul for eight years as well as served as the Editor-in-Chief of Hurriyet Daily News, Turkey's oldest English-language daily, Mr. Judson provided expert analysis on the current state of democracy in Turkey and the long-term implications of continuous crackdowns on opposition media. Turkey is currently the title-holder for the highest number of imprisoned journalists in the world, ahead of Iran and China.
Having recently returned from the Turkey-Syria border, Mr. Judson also shared his insights on the complexities of monitoring this passageway for incoming Syrian refugees and foreign fighters seeking to join ISIL in Kobani.
