A Special Discussion with Moshe Ya’alon
September 19, 2016

Read a summary of this event.

A special lunch discussion with the Honorable Moshe Ya’alon, former Israeli defense minister, on contemporary Israeli defense policy, security concerns, and U.S.-Israel relations, presented in partnership with the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

Although Israel’s relationship with the United States has historically been symbiotic, it has been shaky at times during the Obama administration. The nuclear deal with Iran was condemned by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders at a time when terrorist attacks are on the rise in the Middle East and Europe. In early August, however, the United States and Israel were wrapping up negotiations for a new multibillion-dollar military aid package, the largest the United States has ever given any country, according to the Washington Post.

How will the results of the upcoming U.S. presidential election impact the U.S.-Israeli relationship? What are Israel’s most pressing security concerns in the short and long term?
