The sixth installment of the Edgerton Series on Iran and Turkey, featuring an evening reception and discussion with Dr. George Perkovich, Vice President for Studies at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) — agreed to on July 15, 2015, by Iran, the P5+1 (China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States), and the European Union — is intended to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons through significant physical constraints and verification provisions. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) verified in January that Iran has met the necessary requirements to ensure that its nuclear program remains peaceful. Since January, Iran has violated UN resolutions on three separate occasions by test-firing long-range ballistic missiles and laser-guided surface-to-surface missiles. Though the tests are not technically prohibited under the accord, President Obama said in April that Iran has undermined the "spirit" of the nuclear agreement.
