Zachia Nazarzai is the Director of International Affairs, Policy, & Protocol in the Office of Mayor Eric Garcetti. Previously she served on the Mayor’s Neighborhood Services team, where she promoted access to public open space and increased equitable recreation programs. In 2018, she helped launch SwimLA, a citywide campaign that resulted in doubling enrollment in the City’s summer swim classes. Zachia also serves as the Executive Director for the Afghan-American Community Organization, a nonprofit that convenes the Afghan-American diaspora and through dialogue creates a more supportive, empowered and engaged community. She received her BA in International Development Studies and Political Science from UCLA and her Master’s in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University.
