Margaret Sabbag (“Maggie”), who grew up in the Pasadena area, attending Gooden and Polytechnic Schools. She received a BA in Slavic Languages and Literature/Soviet Studies from Princeton University (1991) and a Masters of International Affairs in International Economic Policy from Columbia University (1998).
Following college, Maggie worked in emerging markets investment banking focusing on the former Soviet Union while based out of New York City. In 1994, she moved to Moscow full time as an advisor for the Central Asian Investment Company, a US-UK private equity fund to identify opportunities in the newly independent Central Asian Republics. After graduate school, Maggie moved back to Los Angeles in 1998 and became the Sovereign Analyst for the Emerging Markets Fixed Income Group at Trust Company of the West (TCW). In this capacity she followed economic and political country risk in emerging markets worldwide. She also worked in institutional equity brokerage for Heflin & Co.
Maggie is married to Ken, an orthopedic hand surgeon from Boston. Since starting a family in 2003, Maggie has focused on raising their three daughters and serving in a wide variety of school and other volunteer roles.
Maggie has been a member of American Women for International Understanding (AWIU) since 2015 and chaired AWIU’s International Women of Courage Celebration in 2017. She joined AWIU’s Board in 2020 and is the First Vice President of the organization. Maggie also serves on the Board of Trustees of Polytechnic School and the the Board of Directors of the Pasadena Community Foundation.
