Les is a Shareholder at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck in its San Diego and Los Angeles offices. He is a member of the firm’s Natural Resources Department and Corporate Law Department.
His corporate practice focuses on the breadth of major corporate matters, including corporate structuring and restructuring, corporate governance, transactional, M&A, regulatory, permitting, strategic planning and investment analysis, organizational issues and internal investigations. His natural resources practice includes power, natural gas, renewable energy, LNG, state and federal regulation, utilities, climate change, water and permitting. He has provided legal services to corporate and energy clients for over 30 years and has served as both in-house general counsel and outside general counsel.
He is frequently consulted on matters related to corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, energy, utility, LNG, government regulations, alternative energy, energy policy, climate change, carbon capture and sequestration, smart grid, green building, transmission, energy and “green” tax incentives, renewable portfolio standards, and other issues. He has also assisted governmental entities in drafting legislation, ordinances, and regulations.
Les has testified before Congress as an expert witness on energy and SEC matters. Before entering private practice, Les served as a Legislative Aide at the U.S. Senate offices in Washington, D.C., where he assisted in the drafting of major environmental bills, including the Endangered Species Act, Clean Air Act 1970, Clean Water Act, Offshore Drilling Act, and the Federal Noise Abatement Act.
Les holds a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center and a Bachelor of Arts from Santa Clara University. He also attended Stanford University, Graduate School of Business Executive Management Program, Harvard Law School’s Summer Appellate Program and holds a Philosophy Certification from the University of Vienna, Austria.
