Gene F. Kim is an attorney at the Palo Alto office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, specializing in representing public and private companies on complex corporate matters and commercial transactions. Prior to joining Skadden, Gene held senior managerial roles and consulting roles across a variety of sectors, from tech start-ups and marketing firms to political campaigns and the U.S. Congress.
 
Gene began his career in D.C., working as a Hill staffer, policy director of a Congressional campaign, and communications director for a Congressional foundation. Gene went on to serve as Executive Director of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, leading a bicameral legislative entity made up of more than 40 Members of Congress. He later became a senior director at one of the largest public affairs firms in Los Angeles, where he managed award-winning multicultural marketing campaigns to build public support for environmental measures, funding for K-12 education and community colleges, and initiatives to promote healthcare access and disease prevention. More recently, Gene worked at two Bay Area start-ups, one focused on micromobility solutions and another developing technology for autonomous transportation.

Outside of work, Gene held leadership positions in community and political organizations, including serving as national Co-Chair of Korean Americans for Biden in 2020. Gene has been recognized with awards from the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies, Muslim Advocates, the Japanese American Citizens League, the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, and was listed on the annual “40 under 40” list by the National Association of Asian Pacifics in Politics and Public Affairs. 

Gene received his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management and his Juris Doctorate from the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degrees in Rhetoric and Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley.
