A graduate of the University of London’s St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School (now part of Imperial College, London) from where he received his MD and PhD, Dr. David Lee is a seasoned entrepreneur, business leader and philanthropist. After leaving clinical medicine, where his focus was internal medicine and gastroenterology, Dr. Lee worked in the pharmaceutical industry overseeing research and development for over 30 years in Europe and the US in both established and start-up companies. He was a founding executive and Chief Scientific Officer of Endo Pharmaceuticals, helping to build a multi-billion dollar global healthcare company. Dr. Lee has been retired since 2013. Dr. Lee’s philanthropic endeavors have been mainly focused in the healthcare arena and is a major supporter among others of Mercy Ships, operator of the world’s largest and most advanced nonmilitary hospital ships and International Medical Corps which provides medical support in areas impacted by conflict and natural disasters. He is a past member of the Executive Committee and Foundation Board of the National Hospice Foundation and FHSSA (formerly the Foundation for Hospicesin sub-Saharan Africa); the board of Switchboard Health (formerly Africa Aid), a social enterprise using mobile telephones to support the development of healthcare in Africa; a founding member of the advisory board of the Africa Hospice Initiative; and former co-chair of the Board of Advisors and member of the Executive Committee of ACTTION, a public-private partnership of industry and academia with the Food & Drug Administration. Dr. Lee has traveled extensively over many decades for both business and pleasure and has visited more than 100 countries. He met his Australian-born wife, Sandra in India at the end of a study-abroad period at an Indian medical school. He has had a life-long interest in politics and foreign affairs.
