Pacific Council member Dean Fealk joins delegation to People’s Republic of China April 3, 2013 – Pacific Council member Dean Fealk, a partner at DLA Piper in San Francisco has been selected by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. to join an official delegation to the People’s Republic of China to meet with Chinese government and business leaders, highlight bi-lateral trade and investment opportunities between the two regions. The delegation includes the Governor and 75 business, economic development, investment and policy leaders from throughout California. The trade mission will include events in Beijing, Nanjing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen from Wednesday, April 10th through Tuesday, April 16th. Read more HERE.

Pacific Council member Abe Sofaer offers his opinion on how the US should approach a nuclear Iran January 8, 2013 - As the topic of Iran's nuclear development remains a question, US policy makers examine the options. Should the existing sanctions remain, or is a pre-emptive strike the next step? The solution, Abe Sofaer argues, may be found in historical models. Pacific Council member Seth Stodder interviewed on American Airlines Cargo Business Insights March 29, 2012 - In February, the Executive Office released the National Strategy for Global Supply Chain Security. It details new priorities for how the United States protects the domestic and international supply chain, working with industry to achieve security, efficiency and resilience. Pacific Council member Robert C. Bonner Discusses Border Security September 9, 2011- Panelists talked about border security challenges since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Topics included the consolidation of various federal offices into Customs and Border Protection in 2003, and the September 11th Commission's recommendations. Pacific Council member Arif Alikhan Moderates C-SPAN Debate September 1, 2011- Pacific Council member Arif Alikhan moderated a debate between Peter Bergen and Daveed Gartenstein-Ross on the question of whether the United States is safer in the present than before September 11, 2001. They talked about lessons learned from the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks and the threats of domestic terrorists and the future of al-Qaeda since the killing of Osama bin Laden. Pacific Council led Climate Change Adaptation Task Force Releases Report November 20, 2010- In a report to be released Monday, the 23-member California Adaptation Advisory Panel, a group convened by the Los Angeles-based Pacific Council on International Policy calls for stepped-up data-gathering, monitoring and coordination among state agencies and in the private sector to prepare for a steep sea level rise, diminishing water supplies and the spread of wildfire, as studies have predicted. Pacific Council Member Siegfried S. Hecker Viewed North Korean Uranium Facility November 20, 2010- Pacific Council Member Siegfried S. Hecker, a Stanford professor who previously directed the Los Alamos National Laboratory, said in an interview that he had been “stunned” by the sophistication of the new plant, where he saw “hundreds and hundreds” of centrifuges that had just been installed in a recently gutted building that had housed an aging fuel fabrication center, and that were operated from what he called “an ultra-modern control room.” Read more HERE.
